The Varied History of the Wardrobe

When someone says the word "wardrobe" we immediately think of a large wooden piece of furniture for storing clothes, usually with one or two doors, enclosing a hanging space and often with shelves and maybe a drawer at the bottom as well. Sometimes there is a mirror on the door but this is the general consideration for a wardrobe. But the term wardrobe has not always been used to refer to somewhere to store your clothes.
